You’re a base-building, community-driving, heavy-weapon-wielding, zombie-apocalypse-surviving superstar, and today we’re announcing the Juggernaut Edition soundtrack — a perfect companion piece for your adventures outside of Providence Ridge!
The State of Decay 2: Juggernaut Edition soundtrack is available now, featuring new and unreleased music! Here’s how you can get it:
- Get it on iTunes for $9.99 USD
- Get it on Steam or on the Epic Games Store as a two-disc bundle with the original, previously released State of Decay 2 soundtrack, for $14.99 USD
To celebrate this launch, we talked to Undead Labs’ Director of Audio, Kevin Patzelt! Here’s what we learned:
Q: Tell us what fans can expect from the State of Decay 2: Juggernaut Edition soundtrack?
Kevin: The Juggernaut Edition soundtrack features music primarily from Heartland and Juggernaut, but also includes some previously unreleased tracks from the State of Decay 2 base game.
Heartland was our chance to revisit Trumbull Valley. Starting from the opening track, we used the narrative storyline as an opportunity to bring back some of the melodies, themes, and tones of the original game. The music presents a bit of nostalgia as you revisit familiar people and places from State of Decay. Conversely, the introduction of the intense battles and visual deluge of the gauntlet allowed us to tread new ground and introduce a much darker tone, leveraging modular analog synthesis and a more classic 80s sci fi and horror vibe.
The introductory onramp missions in Juggernaut let us craft a unique musical experience for new players. Most of our music in the original State of Decay 2 release had to work in many different circumstances throughout the game. It was a fun opportunity to create music that was for specific, defining moments of the player’s experience like curing your first community member or killing your first plague heart. At the same time, it gave us a chance to fill out some musical gaps like claiming outposts or recruiting new community members. Juggernaut focused on filling out the player experience and expanding the musical scope that affects our entire campaign mode.
The Juggernaut Edition soundtrack comes with a whole new experience of what it means to survive in the apocalypse, while invoking familiar themes and expanding on the growing threat of the plague.
Q: How much music is in this new soundtrack?
Kevin: There are 24 tracks, which comes out to 53 minutes of listening. If you get the bundle on Steam with the original State of Decay 2 soundtrack, that’s an additional 33 tracks.
Q: How much did Jesper Kyd contribute to the new soundtrack?
Kevin: Most of the tracks are from Jesper Kyd and five new tracks were written by myself, performing as dreissk
Q: Will there be a physical version?
Kevin: This new soundtrack is digital only. But if you want to own the vinyl version of the original State of Decay 2 soundtrack, you can get it on Amazon.
We’re so excited about this new listening experience. Huge thanks to Kevin and his team for all their hard work, not only on the new soundtrack but also for the massive amount of new audio and improvements that are going into Juggernaut Edition.
